Welcome to the Atomics Fan merit badge guide for Fallout 76! As with all of the Possum badges, make sure you’ve earned the Possum rank before beginning this, otherwise your progress won’t count. The Atomics Fan merit badge is another fairly easy one, which will help you get those all-important backpack upgrades! Before we jump into our recommendations, here are the requirements for the merit badge.
- Pass “Atomics Fan” knowledge exam at an exam terminal
- Acquire Nuclear Material (x/30)
- Craft Mini Nukes (x/5)
- Kill enemies with a Fat Man (x/20)
- Mod a Fat Man
- Visit Emmet Mountain Disposal Site
- Visit Federal Disposal Field HZ-21
- Visit Missile Silo Alpha
- Visit Missile Silo Bravo
- Visit Missile Silo Charlie
- Visit Thunder Mountain Power Plant
If you’re looking for help with the Atomics Fan knowledge exam, we have an expandable tab down below with all of the questions and answers available. Acquiring nuclear material is easy enough, but if you haven’t already, you can tag that (or other needed junk) in your Pip-Boy menu so that it’ll give you a special icon whenever you’re looking at junk that you need.
Crafting mini-nukes isn’t difficult, but it is a bit resource intensive. As such, we’d recommend using Ammosmith (under Agility) and Super Duper (under luck) to at least give you the most bang for your buck. Pun absolutely intended. You can use the Daisycutter you got from questing, or any other legendary to make getting 20 kills easier, but the nice thing about the Daisycutter is it has 90% reduced weight, so it’s not as painful to drag around. If you hit up events like One Violent Night, or others where enemies group up together, it might make it a tad easier to down 20 enemies, but we’re not the boss of you (but if you want us to be, find out about exciting careers as an unpaid intern!).
After you’ve modded a Fat Man (or a legendary variant), the rest of the merit badge just wants you to go map hopping. Feel free to take over the workshops, and maybe launch a nuke or three from the silos!
