Welcome to the Chemist merit badge guide for Fallout 76! As with all of the Possum merit badges, if you want to ensure your progress counts, make sure you’ve reached the Possum rank before beginning. The Chemist merit badge is a little bit time consuming, but also requires you to be able to craft serums, so it’s probably not one of the first ones you should work on if you’re trying to get your backpack upgrades. Anyhoo, before we get to the main portion of the guide, here are the requirements.

If you’re looking for the answers for the Chemist knowledge exam, we’ll have those down at the bottom of the article in an expandable tab. As far as the collectible items, you can find those in a variety of locations, but the lab at Vault-Tec University in Morgantown, where you turn in the Heart of the Enemy daily is an easy option for most of the items. Note on obtaining items: some items can be obtained from other players (including the following suggestions), some must be obtained naturally by the player.1) Receiving the item directly from a friend. 2) Picking up from a container, placed by another player. 3) Purchasing from a vendor, sold by another player. 4) Finding the item naturally in the world.
Crafting the various grenades are easy, provided you have the plans, although the plasma grenade plan was only recently introduced to the game. If you got one in a holiday gift from the Santatron, then you’re set, otherwise you might have to either wait, or shell out a few thousand caps to buy the plan from another player.
If you’ve already got a serum recipe, then the next part should be easy as well. If not, you have a few options. You can spend 20k or so caps to buy a recipe from the vendor in the Enclave. You can try to earn one from killing the scorchbeast queen, although the recipes might or might not have been removed from her drop table. Otherwise, you can try to buy a recipe from a player vendor, or someone on Reddit, and they usually go for anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 caps. After you’ve crafted a serum, you also need to take one. If you already have your mutations set the way you want them, then take a serum for a mutation you already have, and it’ll unlock that requirement, as well as removing the drawbacks of the mutation for an hour or so.
If you haven’t already completed the challenge for curing addictions, then get yourself hooked on booze or chems, and pop some addictol. We haven’t verified whether simultaneously curing multiple addictions will complete this faster, but it’s worth a try. And if you verify if that works before we do, then please let us know!
After that, all you need to do is take some photomode pictures (not camera pictures for once!) of a handful of easy to find locations, and then shoot a wolf, a radstag, and a yao guai with a syringer, and you’re golden!
