HTC held another Hearthstone tournament over the Fourth of July weekend, commentated by Kripparrian and Gnimsh. Trump battled against nugoory in the finals and went 3-1, taking the tournament.
You can find the results and more information on Liquipedia, but it doesn’t look like VODs are posted yet. The tournament format was best of 5 conquest, requiring a player to bring 3 decks and win with each one to take the match. There were 12 invited players and 4 that qualified through an earlier series of games.
Nugoory, who got second place, was in fact one of those that got to the tournament through qualifying. He beat out several other well known players like Gaara and Forsen, who was the returning champion, to finally be taken down by Trump.
While nugoory did bring the standard warrior, hunter, warlock, there were some players that brought some unexpected decks. Trump for example chose to bring a mech shaman deck in stead of a warrior deck which served him well, beating nugoory’s warlock deck. It turned out that hunter was Trump’s weakest deck, the only one he lost with during the finals.
Over the spread of all players, at least one deck from each class was represented. I was particularly happy to see Bunnymuffins running an agro paladin, similar to the one covered by Deck of the Week this week. Unfortunately, after going up 2-0 versus Trump, he then went on to lose 3 in a row with the mighty Grim Patron Warrior. Perhaps this is the start of Patron Warrior’s reign coming to an end. Or it could also be that Trump is just really good at playing against Patron Warrior.
