While the Summer Games Done Quick event has dominated Twitch this week, there was still a great Hearthstone Tournament to watch.ASUS sponsored the Republic of Gamers Tournament that took place in Helsinki, Finland. Tom60229 from Taiwan was the victor!
The tournament took place over the weekend of July 30th through August 1st. There were 32 competitors at the event, 16 of which were invited and 16 that qualified through online qualifier tournaments. While only one qualified player, MartinCreek, made it to the quarterfinals, this was still a great opportunity for many people to show themselves on the Hearthstone scene.
The final match was between tom60229 and Powder. While the rest of the tournament was a best of 5 conquest format, the final match was best of 7 conquest, with each player being able to reuse one deck that they had already won with. Powder took an early win with his druid deck, which he then decided to reuse.
Unfortunately, this didn’t work out for him as tom60229 won 3 games in a row facing down that druid deck. Tom60229 brought a druid himself, along with a rogue deck and warrior deck. Ironically, the warrior deck was the only one to fall to Powder’s druid deck, but tom60229 still decided to reuse that warrior deck and claim the victory.
Congratulations to tom60229!
