Get ready for the Grand Tournament because Blizzard has announced that this week’s Tavern Brawl will be all about the new Grand Tournament cards. It begins on the usual Wednesday and will last until August 24th.
The format will preview not only sets of the Grand Tournament cards for players to try out, but the new hero skins as well. It seems you will randomly be assigned one of two characters. Medivh, the mage, will be playing a deck based around the Inspire mechanic. Then there is Alleria, the hunter, who will be featuring the new Joust mechanic.
This preview has a lot to offer so be sure you don’t miss out. Not only will you get to play with the new expansion’s cards, but this will be a good early test to see which new mechanic is more powerful. If one mechanic is undertuned, it will probably become apparent after a few matches, similar to when Nefarian and Ragnaros battled it out in a tavern brawl. It became clear pretty quickly that Nefarian had the better overall hero power and deck synergy. We’ll have to see if something similar happens with this brawl.
Finally, this announcement gives us a pretty good estimate of when the Grand Tournament expansion will finally release and the new cards will become officially available. Because the announcement states that this brawl ends on August 24, one day before Tuesday, it wouldn’t be far out to guess that August 25 will see the release of the expansion. That is of course only speculation, but the date and circumstances do make sense.
