Welcome to another Pioneer Scout merit badge guide for Fallout 76 from Agents of Game! The Herpetologist badge is fairly straightforward, and while it appears to work properly now, there were some bugs (pun intended) where the second requirement wasn’t properly registering. It’s also a bit time consuming, so we wouldn’t recommend this as one of your initial three merit badges to unlock the Possum rank or your backpack, but it’s not a bad one to supplement with. Before we get to the tips and suggestions, here are the requirements for the merit badge.
- Pass “Herpetologist” knowledge exam at an exam terminal
- Build a Frog Habitat in a Workshop or C.A.M.P.
- Take a camera picture of an Angler
- Take a camera picture of a Deathclaw
- Take a camera picture of a Frog
- Take a camera picture of a Gulper
- Take a camera picture of a Mirelurk Crab
- Take a camera picture of a Mirelurk Hunter
- Take a camera picture of a Mirelurk King
- Take a camera picture of a Mirelurk Queen
- Take a camera picture of a Radtoad
If you’re looking for the questions and answers to the Herpetologist knowledge exam, we’ll have those down below in an expandable tab you can take a gander at. Building a Frog Habitat in a Workshop or C.A.M.P. was previously bugged, but now it is working properly. At a chemistry bench, under Science Projects, you can craft a Frog Jar (after you’re a scout, at least, and it requires one bloodleaf, four glass, and one wood). While the Frog Jar is in your inventory, when you collect a frog, it now appears in your junk as a Captured Frog. Don’t scrap it, but with both items in your inventory, you can now go to your C.A.M.P. crafting menu, and under Floor Decor, towards the middle/bottom of the list, you should now be able to place a Frog Habitat. Enjoy!
The rest of the requirements focus on taking camera pictures (not using the photomode feature), and can be completed regardless of whether the creature is alive or dead. We were working on a map that shows common spawns for all of the creatures throughout Appalachia, but, some infinitely more talented folks beat is to it with the Mappalachia tool. It’s great, and maybe you should consider using it. There used to be intermittent daily/weekly Atom challenges that show up requiring you to take photos of certain animals, but those haven’t been around for a while, so might as well just snap the pictures while you’re out and about.
