After quite a while of radio silence, Bethesda has announced some upcoming updates for Fallout 76. First, we’ll receive a minor update coming Tuesday, April 18th, with (hopefully) only a short server downtime. That update will focus on bug fixes and performance optimizations, rather than bringing new content into the game.
ONCE IN A BLUE MOON
There is, however, something a bit more meaty to look forward to, scheduled for the beginning of this summer. “Once in a Blue Moon”, which will bring two new cryptids to the game, along with Public Events, Side Quests, Rewards, a Daily Ops Mutation, and more is now on the horizon.
If you own a copy of Fallout 76 on Steam, then you’ll be able to try out the new content early in the Public Test Server starting on April 20. Bethesda is looking forward to reading feedback and experiences on their official Discord. Players who have not already joined the PTS channels can add themselves by selecting it as their Server Role in General Info.
We’ll get to face of against two new cryptids, the Blue Devil and the Ogua. The Blue Devil is a large canine-like creature with glowing eyes, hooked claws, and needle-like teeth (likely inspired by the Jersey Devil), while the Ogua is a massive creature reminiscent of a gigantic snapping turtle, that emerges from the ground (Does this mean Angry Turtle is now officially canon in Fallout?).
The update will also feature new daily quests from the Costa family’s business. Players will be able to learn all about what kind of challenges are slowing the Costa’s progress, and collect some unique rewards along the way in this series of daily quests. Unlike other dailies, players will only be able to complete this series of seven quests once, but each has a unique Blue Ridge themed reward, ranging from CAMP items to outfits. If you can only complete the quest once, is it really a daily?
In addition to the new content, Bethesda is also bringing back the Blue Ridge Caravan in the “Once in a Blue Moon” update. The caravan needs help with their expanding business, and players will be able to lend a hand at the Middle Mountain Cabins, Blue Ridge’s new outpost. We’ll need to clear out creatures, repair and defend a new Repeller speaker system, and get our hands on some new goodies from the Blue Ridge Caravan.
MOTHMAN EQUINOX EVENT
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait until June for the first return of the Mothman Equinox event. Point Pleasant has once again been transformed by the Enlightened, a sect of the Mothman cult who worship the Wise Mothman, rather than the more violent varieties. We’ll be able to earn rewards by joining other Dwellers on the roof of the Mothman Museum every hour at the top of the hour to aid the Enlightened in performing a dark ritual to summon the Wise Mothman and earn the cryptid’s favor. The Mothman Equinox will be available beginning on Tuesday, April 25 at 12:00 p.m. ET and running until Tuesday, May 9 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
