Think you’ve got what it takes to dominate the Nintendo World Championships? Here’s your first chance in twenty five years to prove it. Well, sort of. Don’t break out your Power Glove yet (we’ll get to some of the problems in a moment). The main event is scheduled to take place at E3 in June, but qualifying begins May 30th. If you want to get involved, you’ll have to make your way to one of eight Best Buy locations hosting the preliminaries, and hope that you can get access to a controller to prove your worth. Where are these eight locations, you ask?

Normally, Forbes isn’t my “go-to” source for gaming news and information, but I think their criticism is pretty spot-on. The short version is that the “world championships” will only be held in the United States, and unlike the original, which toured twenty nine cities, you’re limited to eight Best Buy locations to try to get into the main event. And you’ll be limited to the championship mode of the Ultimate NES Remix. Despite that, having long been a fan of The Wizard, this still gets me excited. If you’re going to try to get in on the action at one of the Best Buy locations, let us know, we’d love to hear from you.
In other news, apparently Best Buy is not only still in business, but has at least eight locations still open. Who knew?
